The Wetaskiwin School Division has an opening for a part-time 0.5 FTE-Literacy Teacher at Griffiths-Scott School. Griffiths-Scott School currently serves approximately 260 students in Grades K to 8. Most of the school's students are drawn from the town of Millet and surrounding attendance area. The following provides some of the specific responsibilities of the Literacy Teacher;
- Provide daily, small group and individualized instruction to students identified for early literacy support using evidence-based strategies.
- Collaborate with Kindergarten and primary classroom teachers to plan differentiated instruction and support early literacy development.
- Participate in all Literacy Teacher meetings and professional learning sessions to ensure alignment with school-wide literacy goals.
- Collect, analyze, and maintain student data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and share results with the learning support team and classroom teachers.
- Contribute to school-wide literacy initiatives and serve as an ambassador for the school’s literacy plan.
Preference will be given to incumbents possessing the following qualifications:
- B. ED. Elementary Generalist
- Previous experience as a literacy teacher
- Familiar with Professional Learning Community model
- Familiar with AB Ed's Early Literacy & Numeracy Assessment Framework
- Knowledge and understanding of literacy assessments and timeframes
- Understanding of the responding to interventions philosophy
- Inclusive education philosophy and experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, teachers, parents/guardians
- An ability to work collaboratively as part of an educational team
- Knowledge and experience using emerging technologies to inform practice and transform learning via Google Apps for Education and other cloud based apps
- Commitment to complete Health and Safety Training as prescribed by the Board
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum
- Use emerging technologies to enhance teaching and learning
- Promote a safe and positive learning environments for all students
