Additional Information:

Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools requires a full time Construction & Carpentry Teacher for Wetaskiwin Family of Schools and Pigeon Lake Regional School. This assignment includes providing a diverse Construction & Carpentry program at the Jr High and High School level for grades 7 to 12. The applicant must be willing to include student voice and choice in course planning and be a proponent of hands on learning. We need someone who is highly organized and is attentive to the cleanliness of the shop and will maintain equipment and tools.

 Preference will be given to incumbents possessing the following qualifications: 

  • Training and experience teaching a High School Construction/Carpentry program
  • B.Ed. or a journeyman Carpenter who would be eligible to work on a Letter of Authority 
  • Must have formal training in the carpentry/building construction industry,
  • A Red Seal designation is preferred
  • Skill and ability to operate a CNC machine and support student use
  • Ability to operate computer drafting software and a variety of power equipment and tools
  • Willingness to set up a program to offer apprenticeship opportunities to students
  • Ability to deal with multiple levels of student ability and to differentiate activities for special needs students
  • Support multiple activities to take place in the learning shop to support individual student success
  • Willingness to partner within the school and community is an asset
  • Willingness to continue with established extracurricular programs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, teachers, parents/guardians
  • An ability to work cooperatively as part of an educational team
  • Knowledge and experience using emerging technologies to inform, practice and transform learning via Google Apps for Education and other cloud-based apps
  • Commitment to support the Health and Safety Program and complete training within the set timeframes as prescribed by the Board will be required.
