Angelman Syndrome Awareness at Winfield School

On February 12, Winfield School students and staff were asked to wear blue for a school assembly in recognition of International Angelman Day.  People affected with Angelman Syndrome have a damaged or missing gene that impacts how they walk and talk.

Through our school assembly, our students learned that they have many characteristics in common with friends who have Angelman Syndrome. For example, many enjoy eating pudding and KD! The students learned that they have other things in common, such as playing in water or mud and jumping on the trampoline! Who knew we have so much in common? As well, the students learned how they can communicate and protect friends with Angelman Syndrome.

We wrapped up the assembly with a six-lap walk around the school gym in support of finding a cure for Angelman Syndrome.
