On May 14 Pigeon Lake Regional School sent two students to a one week internship at the University of British Columbia through the Verna Kirkness Science and Engineering Education Program.

The purpose of the program is to provide indigenous students with the opportunity to experience what it is like to do scientific research  at  Canadian Universities.

Amber Chiefstick-Rowan and Katrina Boysis were both awarded scholarships to attend the laboratory of Dr. Edie Dullagan in the Centre for Drug Research and Discovery.  Amber is exploring post-secondary options in health and medicine while Katrina is interested in attending the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Science.

Both students enjoyed the experience as life on a big university campus is very different to life at our little school. Congratulations Amber and Katrina!
