Once Upon a Time at Lynn Lauren School

Once Upon A Time all of the little ‘princes’ and ‘princesses’ who attend Lynn Lauren Early Education School began learning about Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes.

That’s nice you think to yourself, that sounds like fun, and of course...it is!

But what you may not realize is the important and foundational learning for early language, literacy and numeracy development that is carefully woven into this work.

Such As...

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

  • Repetition of rhymes and stories teaches children how language works and builds memory capabilities.
  • Development of inference skills, vocabulary and comprehension.

EARLY LITERACY CONCEPTS

Speech:

  • Listening and learning to discriminate between sounds
  • Exposure and repetition of rhyming words.
  • Provide the opportunity for children to recite independently.

Reading:

  • Provide children with familiarity about how stories are constructed. (beginning, middle and end) & (sequencing)

Language:

  • Increases vocabulary through repeated exposure
  • Provides opportunities for oral language to develop - saying the nursery rhymes together.

EARLY NUMERACY CONCEPTS:

Math:

  • Nursery rhymes are full of patterns, sequencing, numbers, and counting (forward and backward)
  • Concepts of measurement - long, short, full, empty
  • Concepts of classification (color, size, shape)
  • Spatial Awareness (small, medium, large) (near, far)

The goal of providing  “Quality Early Childhood Education” is to create pathways to “Happily Ever After” for all of our children.
