The board invited River from Wetaskiwin Outreach to acknowledge her receipt of an Honourable Mention from the Alberta School Boards Association for the 2024 Honouring Spirit Award. Nominated by her teacher, Mrs. Scott, for her exemplary leadership, courage, and commitment to her culture and educational path, River shared her deep connection with the community, her dedication to mental health, and the importance of her culture. She expressed her hope to inspire other students to persevere and achieve their dreams. Actively participating in powwows, River emphasized the importance of dancing, particularly Fancy, Jingle, and Traditional styles, which help her stay motivated. She highlighted her family's support and the importance of speaking up in her community, stressing that perseverance is key, no matter how long it takes. Congratulations, River!
