Gwynne School has taken ‘a page’ out of the “One School One Book” literacy initiative for the second year in a row and has got their families all reading. As a staff, Gwynne School voted to have every student and staff member in the school reading the novel, “My Side of the Mountain” by Jean Craighead George.
Each Gwynne School family and staff member received a copy of the novel which is theirs to keep. Each week a Google Form is sent out to all families with 2 or 3 chapters assigned for reading and follow-up questions to answer. The form is then sent back to the school, where the family name is entered into a draw for prizes for each student in that family.
Most families are participating and it is wonderful to discuss the book with all students and to see many families reading together and having discussions based on what they are reading. With each turn of the page, a new adventure awaits!
