Community spirit is alive and well at École Parkdale School …..

Parkdale has an incredibly dedicated group of grade four, five and six leaders! This group has taken the initiative to set fundraising goals at local and international levels. This motivated group independently organizes activities such as bake sales, popcorn, sundae and freezes sales, as well as special event days throughout the school year. The group develops their ideas and then presents them to staff and organizes the events on their own. Some students have even extended their passion for community service past the school by organizing fundraising activities within the community. The leadership they show has been inspiring to our younger students who are anxious to help on their committees and join their causes. These events

The money they have raised has been donated to causes of the students’ choosing. Their international goal was to raise money to purchase bricks to help build a school in Kenya. The local goals were to support our local food bank, the Stollery children’s hospital and the Mending Mikayla fund that was recently initiated in our community. The students are always looking for the opportunity to help others and make a difference.

The Community Spirit is also modeled by the adults in our building who this month have registered three teams in the local Boys and Girls Club Race for Kids on May 31, 2014. This race benefits children from our community through the funds raised by the runners.

“In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it.” Marainne Willamson.

We are "Inspiring Education" and students and staff at Ecole Parkdale are modeling what is like to be an "Ethical Citizen".  As an ETHICAL citizen, a student can say: “I do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.”

We want to ensure the students at Ecole Parkdale School can say:

  • It’s not all about me.

  • I have learned about and appreciate the effort and sacrifice that built this province and country.

  • My education has helped me see beyond my self-interests to the needs of the community. As a result, I will contribute fully to the world around me —economically, culturally, socially and politically.

"We are preparing students for their future ..... not our past."
