The students at Ecole Queen Elizabeth School had the opportunity to experience history on Monday, September 25th with the raising of the Treaty 6 flag at Wetaskiwin City Hall.
Students heard speeches from the Mayor of Wetaskiwin Bill Elliot, Chief Randy Ermineskin from Ermineskin First Nation, Chief Vern Saddleback from Samson First Nation, Chief Darrell Strongman from Montana First Nation, and Chief Irvin Bull from Louis Bull First Nation.
Students were challenged to keep history alive and never forget the past. As the flag was being raised, a slight wind showcased the Treaty 6 flag with pride. The ceremony concluded with the drummers and many special guests being recognized.
