Falun School ATB Grand Opening

On November 18th, Falun School hosted the ATB Bank grand opening!!! A wonderful opportunity for our students arrived this fall, thanks to a parent who attended a school council meeting and put us in touch with representatives from the ATB to run this program in our school. At first we were not sure how this program might look in an elementary school environment but our students are now reaping the benefits of participating in and learning about financial responsibility and potential careers in the field of finance. Who would have thought that Falun School would ever have it’s very own fully operational Bank operated by students.  All students across the grades are looking forward to making their first deposit on Friday November 18th, 2016.  The initiative of growing savings will continue on for the duration of the school year.

The ATB Program is  “one initiative at ATB Financial that always brings a smile to my face, it's Junior ATB. The program allows elementary school students to operate their own working ATB branch. With guidance from real ATB associates, students serve as greeters, tellers, back cash counters—even directors on the board. Their classmates are invited to open actual savings accounts where they can make regular deposits at school.

What makes this program so great? The kids learn about the power of saving, develop valuable job skills, and earn a sense of responsibility. Why does the program make me smile? Seeing a child in grade two proudly make a deposit towards the new bike he's saving for is pretty heart-warming, especially when a fellow student is helping him get there.”

Many thanks to our partners at our local ATB branches at the Village at Pigeon Lake and Wetaskiwin.
