Edwin Parr Nominee - Nicola Singer

Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools (WRPS) is pleased to announce that Ms. Nicola Singer a Wetaskiwin Composite High School teacher has been selected to represent WRPS as our 2018 Edwin Parr Teacher Award Nominee. The Edwin Parr Teacher Award recognizes first year teachers who demonstrate exemplary dedication and commitment in the field of Education.

Nicola is the Food Studies Teacher teaching Foods 9, 10, 20 and Commercial Kitchen 30 at the Wetaskiwin Composite High School “Nicola has invigorated our Café and Food Program at WCHS.  She is a passionate Teacher who is heavily involved with our students.  Whether it is organizing our free breakfast program, serving food to students at lunch, volunteering to help out with extracurricular, or supporting our sports teams, Nicola has made a positive impact in our building in a very short period of time” stated Kris Denney, Principal, Wetaskiwin Composite High School.

Nicola attained a Bachelor of Education Degree from University of Alberta. When asked how she felt about being nominated for this award Nicola stated, “I feel honored and humbled to be nominated for the Edwin Parr award. I feel incredibly fortunate to have a career that enables me to combine my passions of working with young people and cooking. I am so thankful for the support that I have received, and continue to receive, from the division, my admin team and the staff at WCHS. When you are surrounded by educators who exemplify teaching excellence and prioritize student success, it is difficult not to rise to the occasion.”

The Edwin Parr Award is annually awarded to one first year teacher in each zone of the Alberta School Boards’ Association (ASBA), who has demonstrated excellence in teaching. Each school division nominates one candidate, and then a committee selects one of the candidates to receive the award for the zone. The Edwin Parr Award recipients are recognized at the ASBA Zone 4 awards banquet held in Innisfail on May 28, 2018.  Nicola will also be recognized at the Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools Board Recognition evening on May 11, 2018.

Superintendent Pearson stated that, “Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools is honored to recognize Ms. Nicola Singer as our Edwin Parr nominee for 2018. Ms. Singer is an extremely capable educator who encourages her students to develop, learn and pursue their passion.”
