Board Meeting Highlights November 26, 2013

Celebrating Excellence Board Chair Deanna Specht presented two Wetaskiwin Composite High School students with an award of $100 each.  It is the practice of the Board to award WRPS students who achieve 100% on diploma examinations with a $100 cheque in recognition of their accomplishment. The Board invited Megan Lethbridge who was awarded 100% on her Science 30 Diploma Exam and Courtney Cook who was awarded 100% on her Biology 30 exam.  Both students recognized their teacher Mrs. Charlene McFeely as being a strong influence in enabling them to achieve their marks.

Board of Trustees Approves Audited Financial Statements JDP Wasserman and Associates presented the 2012-2013 Audited Financial Statements to the Board.  Representatives of the Alberta Teachers’ Association Wetaskiwin Local #18 were in attendance to review and discuss the audited financial statements.  The Board approved the 2012– 2013 Audited Financial Statements as presented.

Combined Strategic Education Plan and Annual Results Report

The Board approved the combined Strategic Education Plan 2013-2016 and the Annual Results Report 2012- 2013. This plan outlines the results from the Accountability Pillar Survey, Diploma Exam and the Provincial Achievement Tests for the 2012-2013 year. The report highlights areas of strength as well as areas for improvement. This document describes our outcomes and measures our progress towards achieving Board priorities and goals. Additionally it monitors our organization to ensure that the programs and services provided throughout the school division positively impact our students which is critical to our school improvement initiatives.  For further information or to view the Combined Education Plan 2013-2014 and Annual Education Results Report visit our website.

 Budget 2012-2013

The Board of Trustees approved the revised 2013-2014 budget which was prepared based on actual student enrolment as at September 30, 2012.

Pipestone School Viability Study The Board received two letters from parents of the Pipestone School community outlining their concerns about the school viability study and possible closure of the Pipestone School. The letters were discussed and the Board determined that they will take the parent concerns into consideration as they continue their deliberations on the Strategic Facilities Plan which includes the viability study of Pipestone and Lakedell schools.

December Board Meeting Time Change The Board of Trustees decided to reschedule the December 17, 2013 Regular Board Meeting to 9:30 a.m. and break for a Christmas lunch with Division staff at 11:30 a.m. with the Regular Meeting of the Board to continue following the luncheon.
