Mourning the Loss of WRPS Students

It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. On Friday, October 8, 2021, at approximately 11 pm, two WRPS students tragically died in a motor vehicle accident. We mourn with the families of these grade 12 WCHS students Bradyn Heinz and Weston Pitcher. Three other WRPS students, also grade 12 students at WCHS (Ben Hofer, Arden Monaghan, and Trace Yelllowbird) were transported by STARS to hospital in Edmonton. They are in serious but stable condition. This loss will raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school division, especially for our students.

Our school division’s Crisis Response Team will help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel in this difficult time. Additionally, the schools will have counsellors available for any students who may need help surrounding this loss.

For any others who require support or further assistance, the division has resources to support you. Please reach out to your child’s school as needed.

We are saddened by the loss of two students to our community and our condolences go out to our impacted families. All WRPS flags will be flown at half-mast in respect for those whose lives were lost and as support for our grieving families.
