Board Meeting Highlights February 11, 2020

Policy Review
The Board is reviewing its policies to ensure they are in compliance with the new Education Act and Regulations. The Board completed extensive policy reviews over the last four years with the assistance to the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA). The Board concluded its current review and approved Policies 15 and 22.

Policy 15: School Closure
As it relates to Policy 15: School Closure, the Superintendent compared the current Board policy to the draft policies distributed by ASBA. The Board reviewed the ASBA policy and approved its adoption. 

Policy 22: Petitions and Public Notices
The Education Act and Regulations requires school boards to have a 'petitions and public notices' policy. The Board reviewed and approved Policy 22 Petitions and Public Notices, which is in compliance with Alberta Regulation 91/2019 Petitions and Public Notices Regulation.

Leaders of Tomorrow
The Board has been a major sponsor of the Leaders of Tomorrow. Trustees agreed to continue to contribute $1,000 and gifts in kind to the leaders’ program.   

Throne Speech Invitation
The Board Chair and Vice-Chair received an invitation from MLA Rick Wilson to the February 25, 2020 Throne Speech and Reception. The Throne Speech outlines the government’s legislative agenda for the upcoming year. The Board determined that it is important for the Chair and Vice-Chair to attend. The Board cancelled its Regular Board Meeting for the same date and deferred agenda items to the March 10 Regular Board Meeting.
