Board Meeting Highlights April 14, 2020

Specialized Support Roles in Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools
WRPS has a variety of specialized roles to support student achievement and success. The presentation was to presented to the Board to provide clarity on the specialized roles that have been implemented to support specialized needs. These specialized roles address the academic, behavioral, social emotional, and crisis response needs of our students. The supporting roles in 2019 - 2020 included: Learning Support Teachers, Family School Liaison, Guidance Counselors, Indigenous Support Workers, Success Coaches, Mental Health Capacity Building Team, Intensive Behavior Support, Autism Specialist and District Psychologist.   It is important to have the Board understand these roles as there may be budget implications as the Board moves forward in developing a new budget.

Ministerial Approval
The Board is still waiting to hear from the Minister of Education regarding approval of the appointment of a new Superintendent for Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools. An announcement will be forthcoming once approval has been received.

2020-2021 Budget
The Board of Trustees has committed to approving a balanced budget for 2020-2021. Recognizing there will be funding constraints, all areas of operations are under review. The Board of Trustees expect they will have to approve operational changes in order to meet their budget commitment.
