Why is my school asking me to okay receive text messages?
Under a federal law originally designed to protect consumers from telemarketers, we have to get your permission to send SMS text messages. It’s also just a good idea, so that we’re sure the message is going to the right phone number for the right person.
This permission only is needed for emails and texts. Permission isn’t necessary for other calls from the school, like you might get directly from a teacher, principal, or other staff member.
What if there is an incident?
If there is an incident, we’ll call or text or email you as long as we have your contact information on file.
Opting-in or out of the SMS Text Message Service
An Opt-In invitation text will be sent on June 12, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. to all mobile phone numbers listed in our Maplewood Student Information System (SIS) for parents, guardians and emergency contacts. Recipients had to reply “Y” or “Yes” to the invitation text message.
If you did not receive the invitation text message or want to ensure your are registered, you can simply:
To Opt-in: Text “Y” to 742665
To Opt-out: Text “STOP” to 742665
Will I be charged for text messages I receive or send to the short code (724665)?
No, you will not be charged for messages that you receive or send to the short code.
What if I want to opt out in the future?
You can opt out of text messages at any time. For text messages, you can stop receiving them by texting “UNSUBSCRIBE” or “STOP” after receiving a text from us.
